Deepak,

I am certified as a CSTE, and find that a suitable certification for Career Improvement. QAI provides a three level certification program, namely CAST (for Associates); CSTE (for Practitioners); and CMST (for managerial members) and each level has its own pre-requisites. You can read more about them on www.softwarecertifications.org. All the best in your pursuit.

Hello Pradeep,

I understand that you have 2.5 yrs of automation testing Experience using SilkTest/SCTM and Borland Certification.

Now its your call whether you would like to take up a functional testing certification or you would like to groom your self as a automation test Consultant.

I would say it is depends on what you want to be,you can choose to take a certification in ISTQB/CSTE/TMap (Functional Certification) or HP-QTP /QC / IBM Rational Tools (Automation Certifications).

Again if you are working for US Clients -CSTE ,If Europe Client - ISTQB/TMap

All the Best!

Thanks,
Thiru.

Hey Deepak...Sorry about the name

Since you want to take up a certification in Testing.I would suggest better start with ISTQB Foundation level certification. This would be the most fundamental certification about software testing life cycle and its protocols. And this will help you acquire knowledge about testing in genreal and add value to your automating testing arena .

Wish you a good luck.

Let me know if you are planning for this certification and if you need more help in the preparation of this certification also.

Thanks,
Thiru.

Deepak - Also check out and compare CAST (Certified Associate in Software Testing) from QAI. From my experience, I find this is more rigorous and meaningful assessment.

But I m still not clear. As I mentioned earlier I already have Borland Certification in SilkTest (BCSTE) & a 2.5yrs wrk exp in SilkTest/SCTM and wana to advance my carrier in automated testing field. So wats best suite for me accordingly to do next....ISTQB, CAST, or if there something else exactly suiting to me or anything else etc etc...

If you see urself or have a desire to propel urself for a career in automation , why do you want to acquire a generic SW testing certification like istqb , cste ?

what do u aim to gain from certification ?

do you think a certification would give you more that just maybe short list your resume ?

if yes, what is that?

Deepak,
To my knowledge the automation certifications are pre-dominantly tool oriented, and offered by all the major automation providers like HP, IBM, and similar one which you have from Borland. Given this, I agree with Sunjeet that you should get a clarity on:

1. What is your objective of the Certification? Job, Recognition, Belonging to a group etc.
2. Based on the objective, you should see if you really need a certification (there are many other ways).
3. If still the answer is Certification for the goal, then we should scout.

There is no generic certification yet on Automation to my knowledge.

Hi Pradeep

My objective of getting certficate are as below
Firstly & mostly to have everything...experience, certificate etc..
Others are to get recognition (even my company collect the certification database of every employee on yearly), job, resume filter, some knowledge gained from it, Automation test consultant etc..
Lastly, as I came into directly in automation testing...so to gain some more theoretical knowledge of testing..

Thanks sunjeet for ur reply.

Nowdays....its good to have everything in today's world.....consider 2 candidates with both of having good exp of 2 yrs in the same field. but one have a certificate in it & other not....so at first glance its obvious that candidate with certificate given the first chance.

Moreover its not like that ...when u r gonna certify in something ....u don't gain any knowledge...& everything will be wasted...you'll definitely get something from that too...because...studies are never a waste of time.

Dear friends,

May be this is a dumb questiuon to all of you. But still i have this doubt.
Why these certificates are necessary? These certificates are costly! What do you think If we have good knowledge and experience, and no certificates?

Thanks and Kind Regards
Jerald
