A Certification is a demonstration of the minimum required skill for performing a role or a function. While examination remains at the core, a certification builds credibility by associating with a professional community, standards, Body of Knowledge, code of ethics. It is important to note that certification by a neutral party gives a little (may be very minor) edge to your credentials. But as Deepak says it is good to have it.

I personally believe that CSTE is a good Certificate Program to have for Software Testing Professionals with more than 2+ years of experience.

Thanks Pradeep for reply..

Is this Certified Software Tester program (CST) (http://www.software-testing.com/web/CTPP.html) is synonym of the same CSTE or it is some other different certification?. Also I am more into automation....so is this best certification among the certifications available in the market.....

The website is www.softwarecertifications.org where you need to check for QAI Certification Program. CSTE is different from CST.

Sorry for hijacking the thread.

CERTIFICATES will help for people who join government concern. A private company which pays for your work will never look for those papers. Suppose if you have got a good job using a certificate, there is no guarantee for that job unless you have that - "mere knowledge". Clear?

@BS Radha, please read it again. - "Just mere knowledge will get you nowhere." And change it as paper instead of knowledge.

I have finished my masters degree in mathematics and i do manual testing. Basically i am a java developer(around 2.5 years) and changed my stream as i loved testing. I have a colleague writing code for integrating Authorize.Net and Paypal with our payment module. He is in his teen age!! He never went to college. My friend's brother takes job from getfreelancer by bidding and does it as his part time job. He is doing BA english. See friends, after ten years no people will buy software. Because they make/write their own.

After ten years no one will be ready to give you money for testing. Even writing code.

All software will be open sourced and moved into cloud. If you aware of the cloud computing(the current trend) and some free online office packages you will never use MSOffice as i do:)

Think about it. Learn some open source web app testing tools. Dont waste money in certification.
If you are a fresher go for it. As it may give you confidence. If you have it(that confidence) already, then get some chocolates N t-shirts and enjoy this 2010.

BTW: This may be confusing for freshers. May be a harsh reply for those tester geeks who have good certificates, for at least BS Radha :-(

Thanks and Kind Regards
Jerald
