Test Republic

Community of Software Testing Professionals

Hi all,
First, I wish good luck to all the readers and members of Test Republic for their discussions and replies. i am a regular reader of Test Republic but I have a concern. I have seen many times in posts and their puzzling replies and it makes me feel Was this the actual discussion what we started ?
I think? We require changes in terms of discussions and their replies” and it should be more specific and precise.

@Ravishankar,

Although it seems a good option to get grades; in my opinion testing is not that back/white or good/bad. You have questions which asking for information and sometimes you have questions which ask for directions. Either way, the answers provided shouldn't make you copy the information, it is better that provided answers makes you think. In that case you are given a situation were you can create your own thoughts about it. For this it is important to know the pro's and the cons. Based on the ability here for discussion you can clarify and validate your thoughts. This might also help to express your thoughts to others.

Jeroen

If you feel that way about a given conversation, why not bring it up then and there? Certainly many people here aren't shy about that!

This, by the way, is a crucial testing skill. When a tester sees something that s/he doesn't understand, it's time for questions. Take confidence in the idea that, if you're asking, you're probably help at least some other person in the (real or virtual) room.

Hello,

I have been following Test republic from last more than 1 year(thats when I first came across it).
Since then I liked the interaction that happens here. Cuz the way our queries get answered its a great learning experience.
For everyone who said that answers are puzzles, etc... don't you think if you get direct clearcut answers for your queries that would be considered as "spoon feeding". If you feel that a particular answer is not clear, interact more with the person who answered. Try to find out what he exactly wants to say, maybe the person wants you to reach the answer & not the answer reach you.
Th example that Pradeep gave about getting on to the 10th floor says it all.
Also why to delete any reply. How will a new person understand the flow of a thread widout that?

Roshni,

As you might notice the person who started the discussion herself wasn't interested in pursuing this discussion. That's interesting, ain't it?

@ Pradeep,
Well...that actually answers who's confused.

@ Mansi,
Please let us know whether our discussions/answers for this thread (especially) are clear to what extent to you.

Roshni.

@ Roshni,

Thanks for drew my attention again to this discussion, which is been posted one month ago …..Though you have been following the Test Republic from last more than one year. Anyways…..

“If you feel that a particular answer is not clear, interact more with the person who answered. Try to find out what he exactly wants to say, maybe the person wants you to reach the answer & not the answer reach you”

Absolutely correct if the answer is not clear, it should be discussed with the one who answered it, but don’t you think if a novice has some doubt or query in his mind
and who already has searched it and because there so many eminent people are there who can probably relate the question with their practical knowledge and they can help the person to understand the context, they should guide the person.

Again I am not saying that they should spoon feed him/her, but at least can help them to correct if they are wrong or to aid them if their perception is right.

@ Pradeep,

“As you might notice the person who started the discussion herself wasn't interested in pursuing this discussion. That's interesting, ain't it?"
As you said I am not interested to pursue this discussion, yes absolutely correct ….
Because If you observe in some of the posts of “Santhosh ” he said
“I think…………
“What happens when the discussions are not understood by members?
They just skip away without reading even the other replies if the first reply is not understood by them.”

If you get this from a novice who is saying this we can sense what it made him to think this..

And if you observe the overall discussion of every one again the entire discussion turned in some other direction like in one of the reply shikhar singh said….
“Does that mean expert please be sperated we don't need you anymore...”
That is why I did not pursue the discussion further …

Definitely!! They should help & as far as Im concerned they do help...
Tell me one thing unless & until you don't specify which part of the discussion is not clear to you/unless & until you don't question them in return..you shouldn't expect them to go deep into the query.

If you have ever watched "Mahabharata" (the old one) or read Bhagwad Geeta, there's one scene when Pandavas are standing against Kauravas in Kurukshetra. Before the war begins, Arjun asks Krishna "Duryodhana is my cousin, Drona is my teacher, etc...Do you think I should fight against my own people?" Krishna replies, "Yes. You should." Arjun waits for him to go on but Krishna doesn't say anything apart from the above 3 words. Seeing this Arjun again questions him, "You just said YES but you didn't told me the actuall reason. Why should I fight against my own blood?" As usual Krishna smiles slyly & replies, "You just asked me 'Should I fight against my own people?' you didn't asked me 'Why?'

Always remember no one will help you unless you help yourself. If you don't understand any concept be frank to ask the person who answered you. If he/she says he can't(which I don't think will possibly happen) then ask others who have been trying to help you out.

Roshni.

Aloha! am on the same boat. I am a newbie to this 'social network' and finding difficult to realize the business benefits of my time spent here.

There aren't any significant business benefits you would find but potentially some learning benefits and helping other testing community member benefits, for sure. As testers can primarily mentor other testers, your time spent here today might influence someone in the future to get influenced by it.
