Hi Subranian,

 

You should definitely log the enhancement. Then It is for the stakeholders to decide if they want to accept your  enhancement or not.

 

If you are feeling that the application is missing some feature, then some user might also face the same problem. So, its better to track the enhancement.

Hi Jaya,

          Thanks for the reply. But people say its waste and some even say there is no point in logging the enhancement when you know it will be rejected.  some developers say that out of 100 only 1 will face such a situation. but my quest is why should users forget only the password n why nt the username..Do you think Test managers will put forward your enhancement in ur company if you face such a situation..?

As the feature of password it self say that make secure, But in any where in the application asking the user to make you user name secure.

As you said for multiple application you are using the same password different user name. I don't know how it is secure.

That what the feature defined. in any application if user name also secure then you can lock such enhancement.

for general site I don't agree to provide such feature.

if you fell that is that is required in any stand alone application you can make. but web application like this it is wast of time too As I feel.

Hi,

Forgot user name has also same importance with Forgot password

usernames which has special characters,numbers are difficult to remember long period of time if we are not using regularly

if user have so many diff usernames in same network or diff networks it will be little bit cumbersome to remember their usernames

i will definitely agree with this scenario

when i try to login into my account on monday after weekend i generally forget my Pwd, I am sure the same would happen with Username after sometime... So definitely you can take it as enhancement and find some space for Forget Username.

 

I have gone through few websites which have adopted this functionality, by now many would be thinking about this feature... so why not you become world class...

I think you worked for correct requirement its happens its dont waste of time but acutually you are making your's website or solution or product more user friendly .

Hi Subramanian,

There are possibilities for the users in forgetting the username. In case, if we forget password, we can retrieve it using our username or email id. But if the username has forgotten, then we have to find a way to retrieve it. I don’t think we can get usernames using passwords. Emails can be used only if they are unique in the website. If the website allows same email id to register more than one time, this won’t help. (If it is allowed, usernames will be used to retrieve the forgotten password)

Most of the websites will send you email after you registered with them. So the registration confirmation mail should contain the username and password details. This will help users to get their username as this mail will stay in their account. Registration confirmation email feature must be implemented.

When we forget the password, normally it will ask us to enter email id and it will generate an email with password. In this mail, username should also be included along with the password. Therefore, users can find their username in two mails : Confirmation & Forgot Password.

I hope this will avoid logging this as enhancement/issue and arguing with developers :(

But if the client is very particularly asking for a provision to retrieve username, then it should be implemented.

Correct me if I am wrong.

For TestRepublic--Ithink Username should be one of your emailid.....?

For Other Website..there are options/sec questions for Username Forgotten...

I think VIKAS is on the solution of the Following Enhancement , now the days various applications or web  services are using the EmailID as the Username at a secondary option , so this issue of forgotten the Username can be sort out through these practices but it also be noted that it will become hazardous for the sake of security.

Good to point out this ... but keeping complex password and changing it on various site is understood... but keeping different user name with variance is not the case ...not many time does this happen ... I agree some time the user name which we want to keep is already taken by some body but suggestion appearing is similar.... Still a valid point to raised... but seems not many people would be needing that ...hence seeing the need and popularity product owner would be interested ..
