Hello TestRepublic,

A trainee whom I mentor at work recently provided feedback on 'My Areas for Improvement'. One of the items he shared with me was 'You are very bug hungry all the time'. Is it wrong to be bug hungry while testing as long as I stick to the testing mission?

Please share your views.

Thanks,

yes Surojeet Sengupta is correct one should find complex bug as soon as possible so that no one should point fingures on u saying that these problems are not yet detected that is hungryness all about

I'm not bug hungry. I am investigating if a product under development solves the customers problem and satisfies the customers needs. If this investigation results in not finding a single bug which obstructs or prevents obtaining the customer solution, i am satisfied. And more over, the customer is satisfied.

In my opinion quantity is totally irrelevant.

Do i need to move to a different discipline?

Maybe "learning hunger" is better than "bug hunger".

If your work gives a picture of the product that your stakeholders can understand and use to make decisions about the product then you're doing them a good service.

But I suspect any "curious tester" is on the right track or will find the right balance anyway :-)

Question : "Is it wrong to be bug hungry while testing?"
Answer: I will say NO.

You should assume that there is a bug in each and every functionality before you start the testing process. Covering all the use cases is something impossible for a product(at least for me). If you are not bug hungry, you may miss some bugs for the test cases that you test.

I think finding bugs is one of major aspects of testing.i mean u cant ignore it, if bug is there. but relevant to scenario is must.
Quality is always appreciated than quantity.

and one thing as Pradeep said ...key is to maitnain a fine balance between your testing mission and bug hunger is also important.
