My Cubicle is one of the thousand others in my company “D. E. Shaw & Co.”
on Banjara Hills Road No. 2, Hyderabad. It is my small space in a crowded place. I’ve made it my home away from home… coz I live in most of my waking hours
in the day there than I do in my own home.
Cubicles are ways to divide up an office with cheap partition boards. They are half height so your boss
and anyone else can check out what web sites you are looking at
. I always have the feeling that someone is watching me, but by the time I turn to look they’re gone
.
It’s easy to become overweight in these cubes since there can be little reason to leave them apart from going to the lavatory or heading home. Unless you are a manager, you probably only get to go to one meeting a week (the team brief) where you get to go walk along some corridors and glimpse outside.
Some people seem to be very hard working.
It is exemplified by the fact that they’re found on their seat always. But not all people work all day long in the cubicle. For there are other things that I’ve seen them doing while in office …checking personal mail boxes or orkutting. They really should work but instead they just sit there and surf the Internet.
To make my life in cubicle interesting, I’m allowed to paste/pin/spread/disperse colorful collages
, artifacts
, photos
etc in and around my cubicle. These man-made objects remind me of...the color outside of office, yet help me stay on my seat...by promising me the good life that lay ahead once my hard work is over at 6 p.m.![]()
While at work, I’m allowed to make free local calls
, and get in touch with other beings in this World. I am also allowed to have visitors and take them to the company cafeteria.![]()
When I am sitting in my cubicle, my PC is my only true pal.
It does everything that I command, except for when it runs out of memory and does not recognize my orders. And it is my PC that helps me access forwarded mails with PJ’s.
The worst thing I hate about a cubicle is the noise around
. In the nearby cubicles, people keep talking n talking… abt their girlfriends, their stupid land lords, their workload n all that stuff… n keep talking n talking.
If these people spend as much time working on their work requests rather that talking about their work load, then probably they won’t have any work load at all.
But finally I managed to find a solution to this noise all around. I got a pair of headphones.
Now I can listen to the latest online music…
n not b worried about the noise around.
I guess I should just try to stop wasting time trying to figure out why I hate these cubes and enjoy my view of these cube-farms from my seat. I’m glad; I spend only one third of my day’s time in front of computers.![]()
