Tracebility Matrix could be Bi-Directional. Forward Matrix means Requirement to Design to Code to Unit Test to Integration Test to System Test to User Acceptance Test.

Backward Tracebility means reversse, UAT to Requirement Traceability.

Bi directional traceability ensures that all requirements are covered in all phases of SDLC.

Hi Phani,

Thanks for your answer, But i came there is 2 different Matrix's. There are Forward Matrix and Backward Matrix..
Is these Vertical and Horizontal are as same as Forward and Backward Matrixs?? Please answer me.

Hi Kesanupalli,

Tracebility Matrix: This is high level document mapping between the requirement IDs with test case Ids. We have two types trace ability matixs are available in industry.
Vertical Tracebility:The tracing of requirements through the layers of development
documentation to components.
Horizantal Tracebility:The tracing of requirements for a test level through the layers of test
documentation (e.g. test plan, test design specification, test case specification and test
procedure specification or test script).

Thanks,
Phani
